About the area
Coral Gables was planned in the 1920s as one of America's first fully designed communities, and the vision still shows on every block. Developer George Merrick called it the City Beautiful, and the name stuck: wide boulevards, coral-rock entrances, plazas, fountains, and a deliberate Mediterranean Revival look that gives the city its unmistakable character. Streets curve under mature oak and banyan canopies, and many carry Spanish names rather than numbers, a small quirk longtime residents wear with pride.
Day to day, the Gables feels established and unhurried. Miracle Mile and the surrounding downtown anchor dining, boutiques, and the Saturday rhythm of the neighborhood, while the University of Miami, leafy residential pockets, and well-kept parks draw families who tend to stay for the long haul. Architecture here is protected and intentional, so homes range from historic estates to garden condos, each with its own story. It is a place people choose on purpose, and then rarely leave.
